It doesn’t feel right calling the Tesla Model S P100D a “supercar” since it takes the form of a family sedan, but it does perform like one on the drag strip.
The all-electric car does compete with supercars and it recently had a good challenge from the new Acura NSX.
The 2017 Acura NSX is the latest hybrid supercar to come out of Japan.
With its 3 electric motors, a 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6, a 9-speed dual clutch transmission for a starting price of ~$156,000, the vehicle has been well-received in the lower-priced supercar range.
Drag Times pinned the car against their Tesla Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode on the 1/4 mile track at Palm Beach International Raceway.
It resulted in a challenge between battery pack versus combustion engine, 2 electric motors versus 3 electric motors, no transmission versus transmission.

While the first race looked good for both cars, it appears that the Model S had a bad reaction time on the second race.
In the first race, the NSX ran the quarter-mile in 11.21 seconds at 124 mph and the Model S P100D completed the race .14 second faster.
The Model S didn’t have a full charge, but it was at 75%, which is generally enough to get some good runs.
Earlier this year, some Tesla owners achieved better times in the 10 second range – some even removed the frunk in order to beat records.
