Second worker injured from this week's Baytown Exxon Mobil plant fire files lawsuit - Houston Chronicle

Attorneys for an Exxon Mobil contract worker who was injured in a fire at the Baytown Olefins unit this week said they have filed a lawsuit against the petrochemical company.

This is the second person to file a lawsuit against Exxon Mobil in as many days.

Alvaro Coronel, who was contracted to work as a crane operator at the Olefins Plant in Baytown, was injured as he attempted to flee from an explosion and fire within the unit, his attorneys said in the news release.

Coronel said he heard an explosion at the Olefins plant around 10 a.m., according to the release.
Another worker "told everyone in the vicinity to flee," and as Coronel ran, he heard a second explosion, the release said.

Coronel suffered burns to his head, neck, back, arms and hand, the release said. He is seeking monetary relief over $1 million, according to petition.

Thirty-seven people were injured in the blast and subsequent fire Wednesday in Baytown.
Coronel's attorney are holding a press conference Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Coronel is being represented by the Houston law firm Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz.

Daniel Serrano also filed a lawsuit this week after he said he suffered injuries to his neck, back, head and other parts of his body, according to the lawsuit.

An Exxon Mobil spokeswoman said the company was "currently reviewing" the lawsuits and would provide updates as they became available.
