Elon Musk Waves as He's Seen Driving Tesla Cybertruck on California Highway - Newsweek

Elon Musk was spotted behind the wheel of a hulking Cybertruck on a California freeway over the weekend, giving a wave to another driver while stopped in traffic.

A video of the encounter was uploaded to Instagram yesterday by user Gorgeouserika before making its way to Twitter, where it was retweeted by Musk himself, as noted by Business Insider. Based on the metadata, the footage was taken in Hawthorne, the base of operations for Tesla and SpaceX.

"Elon!" a person is heard saying after spotting Musk inside the massive electric pickup, which then accelerates forward on the I-105.

It's not the first time that the billionaire CEO has turned heads by driving the electric Cybertruck on public roads.

In December last year, he was spotted showing the vehicle off to friends outside a Los Angeles restaurant before colliding with a parking cone.

The same weekend, Twitter user Cody Simms uploaded a photo of the electric pickup seen close to the Los Angeles International Airport. More footage was shared on YouTube of the Cybertruck barrelling down Interstate 405 at about 11 p.m., allegedly with Musk driving.

Late last year, a Cybertruck featured in an Instagram post showing it driving in the Hawthorne area, although it was not clear who was behind the wheel in that instance.

The vehicle was first revealed to the world on November 21, and quickly attracted 250,000 refundable preorders. It isn't expected to enter production until 2021, Tesla has said. It is not known how many road-safe Cybertrucks exist. Tesla has been contacted for comment.

The carmaker says there will be three versions of the truck: a $39,900 single-motor rear wheel drive, a $49,900 dual-motor all wheel drive and a $69,900 tri-motor all wheel drive. The top model can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 2.9 seconds.

"Cybertruck is our last product unveil for a while, but there will be some (mostly) unexpected technology announcements next year," Musk tweeted last November, just before uploading a video which appeared to show his pickup trashing a Ford F-150 in an tug-of-war.

Tesla recently rejected claims in a petition that its vehicles were accelerating without warning, saying the suggestion was "completely false" and pushed by a short-seller. Earlier this month, Musk was seen dancing on stage as Tesla delivered its first China-made cars.

Just last week, the CEO was branded a "genius" by president Donald Trump, who praised Musk for being "good at rockets" and suggested he was planning a new U.S. plant.
