Energy giant Exxon Mobil Corp. is seeking to rezone property next to its Irving headquarters.
The new zoning sought for the more than 35 acres at Las Colinas and Colwell boulevards is southeast of the company’s 25-year-old head office.
The 360,000-square-foot, low-rise headquarters building is surrounded by almost 300 acres and is just north of State Highway 114.
The 35 acres Exxon Mobil is seeking to rezone is across Colwell from the headquarters building and is zoned for residential building.
Exxon Mobil wants to rezone the property for office building. Irving’s planning and zoning commission is set to consider the request this week.
The zoning change is part of a plan by Exxon Mobil to sell off surplus real estate surrounding the headquarters.
“Exxon Mobil is considering the sale of surplus land near its Irving campus,” media relations adviser Sarah Nordin said in an email. “The non-contiguous land parcels surround Exxon Mobil’s existing campus, and include lots both east and west of Las Colinas Boulevard near Colwell Boulevard, and a lot west of Love Drive.
“The five undeveloped land parcels total approximately 100 acres.”
The high-profile Las Colinas property Exxon Mobil is considering for a sale is in an area popular with major corporations for office building.
The 35-acre property up for new zoning is across the street from retailer Neiman Marcus’ former distribution center, which was recently put up for sale.
