Tesla dissolves PR department, will no longer speak directly to media - Driving

Tesla has become the first automaker to dissolve its public relations (PR) department, meaning the company will no longer have any sort of official contact with members of the media in North America.

Tesla barely talked to the press in the first place, choosing instead to release most product information via its public Twitter page (or, occasionally, through a series of oft-bizarre Tweets from CEO Elon Musk).

Reporters from various outlets have been trying to get in contact with Tesla for months, according to Electrek, but aren’t getting any response back. While an overwhelming volume of emails did likely mean some message got buried, apparently it’s more likely Tesla just didn’t want to talk to us any more.

The last person known to be in charge of communications at Tesla left in December of 2019, and just about every other member of the PR team departed at the same time, or moved into other positions in the company.

The only people still managing any kind of public relations are mostly just arranging test-drive promotions for YouTubers, though there are still some PR staff in Europe and Asia.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
