Tony Stewart has partnered with Mobil 1 for the Mobil 1 Thousand sweepstakes ahead of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
The Mobil 1 Thousand sweepstakes, which allows fans to win money if any NASCAR Cup Series driver who uses Mobil 1 takes the checkered flag, have been in effect for several months. But things are getting a whole lot more interesting for the playoffs.
Mobil 1 is a proud partner of Stewart-Haas Racing, and team co-owner Tony Stewart has personally partnered with the brand to promote the continuation of the Mobil 1 Thousand sweepstakes throughout the four-round, 10-race postseason.
Fans will have the chance to win thousands of dollars if a driver who uses Mobil 1 wins any playoff race, beginning with this Sunday’s race at Darlington Raceway.
In 2021, $15,000 has already been awarded, and Mobil 1 has announced that the prize totals will increase during the playoffs, giving fans not only more opportunities to win but the opportunity to win more.

Stewart recently spoke to Beyond the Flag about Stewart-Haas Racing’s relationship with Mobil 1 and how it got to where it is today.
“Honestly I don’t even remember how we started our partnership with Mobil 1, but the reason that it is where it is today is the important part, and that’s the technology that Mobil 1 brought to Stewart-Haas Racing,” Stewart told Beyond the Flag. “And we saw that immediately when they came on board, winning our first race at the All-Star Race in 2009.
“That was an event that the technology that Mobil 1 had — and they tried an oil that they had not run before — that was an event that it’s like ‘Hey, it’s not for points. If something happens and it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.’ But man did we have a fast race car, and it was not all in setup. It wasn’t all in aero. It was in product, and what they were able to help us with.”
More than a decade later, that partnership is stronger than ever, allowing promotions such as the Mobil 1 Thousand sweepstakes to be successful.
“That shows our partnership with Mobil 1 and why it’s so crucial to Stewart-Haas Racing and what it means to us and why, all these years later, they’re still a huge, huge, huge part of our operation.”
Stewart had been in Charlotte, North Carolina driving the Mobil 1 Thousand Money Truck around town to represent the cash prizes up for grabs. And he had quite the experience doing so.
“Well, if people actually knew who was driving the truck, they probably would have given me a lot more room,” Stewart joked. “Because to put me in an armored vehicle in the city streets of Charlotte is a bad idea! I’m not sure Mobil 1 even thought about the ramifications of that.
“But we’re having fun. Obviously it’s a great promotion. It really shows how outside the box Mobil 1 is as far as thinking about the race fans and the communities…to be able to give back to the race fans in a promotion like this shows their integrity as a company, and makes us extremely proud of what they do as well.”
While there is nothing else special planned through Mobil 1 for the playoffs, Stewart is grateful for everything else that this partnership has led to in the past.
“I wish!” he exclaimed when asked if there happened to be anything else on the horizon through Mobil 1 this postseason. “You look back in the past, I was able to drive Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 car, I got to drive a tank, I got to do some drifting with Vaughn Gittin.
“So we’ve been able to do some really cool promotions with Mobil 1, and that’s what I probably, aside from being in the race cars and with the race team, the stuff we do away from the track, that’s what I really love about them, is that they give us great opportunities to do great promotions and have a lot of fun at the same time doing it.
“I don’t know that there’s anything aside from this that we’ll be doing in the next 10 weeks, but this is a really cool deal that gives back. Any time a Mobil 1 driver wins, to be able to give cash to somebody, that is a huge deal!”
