37-year-old man killed by officers at Mobil gas station in Neenah - Post-Crescent

Authorities were trying to take the man into custody on an active warrant when the incident happened.

NEENAH - Officers with the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group shot and killed a 37-year-old man at a Mobil gas station in Neenah, authorities said.

The incident began Wednesday at roughly 4:49 p.m. at the gas station at 521 S. Commercial St., the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Wednesday night.

The sheriff's office said a preliminary investigation "would suggest" the man had shown a weapon prior to two officers from the task force using "deadly force."

The man was transported to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah, where he died from his injuries.

The man's name was not released, but the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation, said Thursday the man is a 37-year-old with a last known address in the Oshkosh area.

The sheriff's office said the group of agencies were attempting to take the man into custody on active warrants as part of an undercover operation. No officers were injured during the incident.

Two officers involved in using deadly force were members of the Lake Winnebago Area MEG Unit and were employed by the Appleton Police Department and Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office.

The officer from Appleton is 42 years old and is a five-year veteran of the department with 10 years of other law enforcement experience.

The deputy from the Outagamie Sheriff’s Office is 31 years old and is a six-year veteran of the Outagamie Sheriff’s Office.

Neither officer’s name was released as they are assigned to undercover operations, Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office said, adding both have been placed on administrative leave by their respective departments and all officers involved are cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing.

The Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group is a collaboration of drug investigators from law enforcement agencies within Outagamie, Winnebago, Fond du Lac and Calumet counties, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations.
